Family Activity Night - Science - Appetite for Art
Makina Bee, of Ahuimanu
Elementary School, and his younger brother Taylor (pictured to the
right) are two of the over one-hundred community members who attended
KCFC's
Family Activity Night, entitled Appetite for Art on Wednesday,
November 28, 2001. Activities for
the event were co-sponsored by Ben Parker Elementary
School and the Windward Arts Council, and included the making of holiday
decorations and gifts. Families enjoyed lots of laughs, snacks,
and holiday music as they spent time together doing activities that were
fun, free and educational.

"Make a Difference Day" Project
On Saturday, October 27th, fifty (50) community volunteers in
support of KCFC's Neighbor-2-Neighbor Program, began the painting of a
sea life mural on the wall at the corner of Keaahala Road and Kahekili
Highway, as part of a "Make a Difference Day" project for the
Ko'olau Village community. Led by artist Lance Sakai, the youth
and adult volunteers spent the day painting the blue and green
background for the mural. The remainder of the mural, which contains
colorful fish, dolphins, and other sea life
creatures, will be
completed by Mr. Sakai and ready for the whole Kane'ohe community to
enjoy by the beginning of 2002. Additional

Ko'olau Village Halloween Dance
Sixty (60) children and teens dressed like cats, skeletons,
ballerinas and soldiers gathered at the
Ko'olau Village community hall
on the evening of Friday October 19th for a Halloween dance that
included holiday treats, a costume contest and music and a DJ provided
by the Kane'ohe Division of the Honolulu Police Department. Teens
who serve as Junior Leaders in KCFC's after-school program at Ko'olau
Village came up with the idea of having the Halloween celebration.
Under the direction of KCFC, the Junior Leaders planned each of the
activities for the dance including the making of goodie bags, the
decorating of the community hall and the creation of a list of rules
that everyone who attended the dance was asked to follow.
Enthusiastic about seeing the results of their hard work and the great
time everyone had at the dance, the Ko'olau Junior Leaders are looking
forward to planning future activities for children and teens in their
community. Additional

Kane'ohe Fitness Sundays
KCFC began
the co-facilitation of Kane'ohe Fitness Sundays in partnership with five (5) other
Windward based service agencies*
in response to the enthusiasm surrounding the distribution of the Kane'ohe
Fitness Map earlier in the year. Kane'ohe Fitness
Sundays will be held on the first Sunday of each month for the next
twelve (12) months and will explore one (1) of the map's twelve (12)
Kane'ohe locations each month. The Sunday walks are open to all
community members and promote moderate exercise as a key component to
living a happy and healthy lifestyle. *Castle
