Information and Referral
KCFC is listed
in Aloha United Way's resource
database and "Where to
call for help on Oahu" brochure, as a primary contact for
Kane'ohe families. KCFC provides families with convenient access to
information and community resources through:
- Telephone and
walk-in requests;
|
|
|
|
|
|

The distribution of parenting and family strengthening
materials at family activities, school events, health fairs, and
community celebrations.
|
|
|
|
Parental Information and Resource Center (PIRC)
KCFC is one of
six (6) established PIRC sites in the State of Hawaii working to improve
the quality of education for Hawaii's children through:
- Increased parent involvement
in schools;
- Improved
communication and access to resources; and
- Stronger
home-school-community partnerships.
Funded by the U.S.
Department of Education, KCFC facilitates:
- Parenting workshops
- Educational
parent-child activities;
- Joint trainings for
parents, school staff, and community leaders;
- Serves as the
community liaison on four (4) of the Castle Complex School's
Community Based Management (SCBM) teams; and
- Offers technical
assistance to individual schools based on their individual
needs.

Neighbor-2-Neighbor KCFC's Neighbor-2-Neighbor program is building safer,
healthier neighborhoods within the Kane'ohe community by providing improved access to
resources, trainings and opportunities that help families thrive
socially and economically when faced with life changes and challenges. KCFC
staff members currently work in direct contact with the families of two
(2) Kane'ohe
neighborhoods:

Kulana Nani: A 160-unit, low-income apartment complex located
on Kahuhipa Street
|
In collaboration with neighborhood residents, housing
management, and other community service providers,
KCFC facilitates:

After-school
tutoring, leadership, and enrichment programs for youth;

Activities
that strengthen social bonds within and between families, and;
-
Cultural
celebrations that foster community involvement and
pride.

Family Center Services |
KCFC's Family Success Coach helps families who live within the 96744 zip
code set goals and find the resources to meet them by offering:
- Suggestions and referrals
- Parenting ideas
- Help with finding a job, childcare, housing, and/or financial
related issues
- Family support and problem solving ideas
- Help with crisis situations or everyday family stress
- Volunteer opportunities
All services provided by the Family Center Services Program are FREE.

Support
and Self-Help Groups
|
|
KCFC facilitated support groups are community-driven and
provide individuals with an avenue for coping and problem solving in a
safe, comfortable and non-threatening atmosphere of mutual experience
and respect.

Na Tutu -
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren:
Grandparents who are raising their grandchildren are welcome to attend this support
group to talk story with other grandparents and to gather
community resources and family strengthening information.
Meetings are held once a month on a regular basis and include
presentations by guest speakers, family gatherings and
celebrations throughout the year.
